Background
- Kids Wonder is a large commercial and entertainment complex located in Cairo, Egypt. It is an educational and entertainment center for children, situated in Cairo Festival City Mall (CFC). The center is designed to be a unique space that combines play, learning, and personal development for children of all ages.
- It aims to provide a fun and safe environment where children can enjoy themselves and learn at the same time. CFC is considered one of the largest commercial and entertainment hubs in Cairo, attracting visitors of all ages with a wide variety of retail and entertainment activities. The goal is to offer an innovative and enjoyable experience through activities that stimulate curiosity and develop children’s skills in a safe and entertaining setting. The space is equipped to allow children to engage in creative and interactive activities with their peers, helping them develop social skills.
- Kids Wonder offers a variety of recreational activities, including physical games, adventure zones, art rooms, robotics simulations, and brain games—allowing children to explore new areas and grow their skills.
Challenges
- At Kids Wonder inside Cairo Festival City, the management faced several challenges before deciding to implement RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to improve their operational and administrative experience.
- With the large number of child visitors and their families, it was difficult to manage the crowd and ensure the safety of children within the center. In such environments, tracking children’s locations is crucial—especially for kids who may wander away from their guardians during playtime. It was hard to monitor their whereabouts and respond quickly in case of emergencies or lost children.
- There were challenges in managing the entry and exit of both children and their guardians, especially during peak hours. The identity verification and check-in/check-out process required significant time and human effort.
- There was no efficient system to track which children were participating in which activity, or to know the duration of their presence in different areas. This sometimes led to delays or scheduling conflicts.
- In a setting with numerous games and recreational equipment, tracking the condition and availability of each piece of equipment posed a major challenge. As the equipment was used frequently, managing its maintenance and readiness added extra pressure on the staff.
- It became essential to minimize manual interactions with customers and adopt more seamless and efficient technology to deliver better service.
Solution
- Children were provided with special RFID wristbands, each containing a unique identification number. These wristbands are worn throughout the child’s visit to Kids Wonder.
- Using the wristbands, the child’s location can be continuously tracked within the center. If a child is separated from their guardian or enters a restricted area, staff can quickly locate them using RFID readers—this greatly enhances safety and helps prevent lost children scenarios.
- This allows for a fast check-in process without the need for forms or long waiting times. Check-in and time tracking are automated, speeding up entry and exit while providing accurate data about visitors.
- With RFID, children can be tracked as they participate in different activities. When a child enters a specific activity area, their wristband is scanned by an RFID reader installed in each zone.
- RFID reduces the need for manual interactions with visitors, decreasing waiting times at entry/exit points and enabling a smooth, fast, and user-friendly experience.
Effects
- Accurate tracking of children using RFID significantly improved safety and helped avoid cases of lost children.
- Entry and exit times were reduced thanks to the RFID system, making the whole process quicker and smoother.
- The distribution of children across various activities was optimized, with more accurate monitoring of participation.
- Equipment tracking through RFID improved maintenance and reduced sudden breakdowns.
- Less manual interaction with visitors led to a more seamless and enjoyable experience.
- The implementation of RFID technology provided an innovative and efficient solution for Kids Wonder at Cairo Festival City, enhancing safety, streamlining operations, organizing activities, and better managing equipment. This contributed to an improved visitor experience and ensured a high-quality, safe service for children and their families.
