Challenges

  • Like many large hotels around the world, Hyatt Hotel faced multiple challenges over the years in its efforts to improve services and increase the efficiency of daily operations. However, these challenges affected the accuracy and efficiency of inventory management for the hotel’s fixed assets, which are used over the long term, such as appliances, equipment, furniture, and other facilities. The challenges were as follows:

    • Inaccuracy in asset tracking: In large hotels, it is difficult to track each asset manually. Sometimes, assets are not recorded accurately or information is not updated regularly, leading to difficulty in knowing the location of assets or even losing some of them.

    • Managing multiple or diverse assets: Hotels contain various types of fixed assets, such as electrical appliances, furniture, lighting systems, air conditioning systems, and health facility equipment. These assets vary in size and usage, making it difficult for the hotel to monitor all of them. Managing this diversity requires precise and advanced systems to ensure that each asset is in its designated location.

    • Manual inventory process: The manual inventory process is one of the biggest challenges that large hotels face. It requires significant time and effort, and human errors may occur when dealing with hundreds or thousands of fixed assets. Relying on manual inventory can lead to overlooking some assets or recording inaccurate data.

Mobile assets: Some assets, like portable devices or equipment that are frequently used in           different areas of the hotel, can be difficult to track. For example, audio equipment or maintenance     devices may be used in multiple places, making it difficult to know their current location. This leads to  challenges that affect inventory accuracy or result in asset loss.

Solution

After extensive research, it became clear that the solution lies in using an accurate and fast technology, which is RFID UHF technology. This technology has made a significant impact in solving many problems, including:

  •    Precise asset tracking: Using RFID UHF technology allows for the precise tracking of every fixed asset in the hotel, whether it’s in storage, rooms, offices, or halls, by attaching a tag containing all of the asset’s data.

  •    Managing mobile assets: It helps track mobile assets that are frequently moved within the hotel between rooms and departments, helping to pinpoint the actual location of the asset, thereby reducing loss.

  • Reducing human errors: By using RFID UHF technology, the reliance on manual inventory is reduced, decreasing human errors and improving the accuracy of records.

Effects

The use of RFID UHF technology at Hyatt Regency was a strategic step to improve operational efficiency, ensure security, enhance the guest experience, and streamline administrative processes.       The technology helped address the challenges the hotel faced, making it an essential tool for improving hotel services and making them smoother and more comfortable for guests.
